This was confirmed in a statement issued by the park management yesterday, Wednesday June 7,  and can been seen as a loss for all who knew Kris and for rhino conservation across the continent. “It is with utmost regret that I inform you that Krisztián Gyöngyi was killed this morning by a rhinoceros in   Akagera National Park  in Rwanda while out tracking animals in the park. Kris was instrumental in supporting the reintroduction efforts of the black rhino into Friends of Akagera National Park, and was on the ground training rangers how to track and protect them,’ Peter Fearnhead CEO of   African Parks  said. While his family has been informed, details of the incident are still being gathered. Krisztián was a rhino specialist with more than five years of experience monitoring and conserving rhinos in both Majete Wildlife Reserve and Liwonde National Park in Malawi. His Master’s degree was on habitat capacity on the black rhinoceros in Majete, and he had been car

Rhinos back in Rwanda to Akagera National Park

Image
The Rhinoceros is a truly fascinating creature, The Akagera National Park reintroduced black  rhinos back to Rwanda in 2017 after the last rhino was seen in the Akagera National Park 10 years ago due to excessive poaching by hunters. The Rwandan government decided to locate the Rhinos back in Akagera National Park because it is the only safe Savannah region in the country.  The Rhinoceros belong to a taxonomic order called Perissodactyle or odd toed ungulates which makes them more closely related to the equids (Horses and Zebras) than the likes of Elephants or Hippopotamuses. The male rhino can reach a staggering 2,300 kg and measure 5.5 ft. Rhinos can feed on grass or being browsers that gorge on fruits and leaves attached to the bushes. Rhino gestation period is around 16 months and the young rhino stay behind the mother as a defense mechanism against predators.  The Rhinos are facing extinction due to highly poaching done by Hunters who are seeking their horns for differ

Tanzania: How Is House Crow Eradication Going on?

The   Indian House Crow ,   Corvus splendens . Actually is a native bird species found in India though it can be found in other part of the World like In Tanzania (East Africa). However, this is not a species I'm ever happy to see. Not because there aren't interesting things to say about it, of course, but because it really belongs in India and seems to cause a number of problems elsewhere . The indian House Crow (I.H.C) are native in India but they have been introduced in Tanzania as exotic species The interesting thing about house crows is that they originally come from India and south-east Asia. They were actually first introduced to East Africa in the late 1890s,   when they were apparently deliberately introduced to control rubbish on Zanzibar . they eat rubbish (lots of it too), but none was thinking that they might also like to eat other things too- like all the eggs and chicks of small native birds, or even young chickens (meaning outdoor chicken farming is
