MYSTERIES IN THE OLDEST DESERT IN THE WORLD "NAMIB DESERT"

Namib means "nothing place" in the local Namba language, this place is like Mars with huge desert sand dunes, rocky mountains, and rocky outcrops, it's a kilometer long desert. 81,000 square meters covering three countries. In southwestern Africa on the Atlantic coast, the Namib Desert is one of the most rugged places in the world, the land of extremes.

In southwestern Africa on the Atlantic coast, the Namib Desert is one of the most rugged places in the world

During the summer the average temperature is around 45 degrees Celsius while the nights are very cold, it is one of the most uninhabitable places on the planet. However, over the years, some species have made their home there - and have led to the discovery of unusual structures that scientists still don't understand. The wettest parts of the Namib receive an average rainfall of only 2 millimeters per year. It can also take years without a drop.

There is a 160km stretch of coastline in Namibia where this desert borders the coastline.  It is a tourist attraction, which is found as a wonder not many in the world

But in the rare presence of animals such as wolves, cheetahs, ostriches, deer, and antelopes, they have created a way to live in this very intense life in the desert. Ostriches raise their body temperature to reduce water loss, mountain goats are able to cry, and ground squirrels can go weeks without drinking water by feeding on plant material such as roots and stems.

The Gates of Hell'

One of the harshest places in the Namib Desert is a 500km long stretch of sand dunes and whitewashed shipwrecks along the Atlantic coast known as the Skeleton Coast . A sanctuary in southern Angola to central Namibia, the place gets its name from the many fossils of whales/baleens that are there on the reef and about 1,000 abandoned ships, all hundreds of years old.

One of the best places to visit when you are on a Namibia tour is the haunting Skeleton Coast. This desolate place is unlike any other on Earth and your time here will stay with you forever.

These clouds make it very difficult for ships to pass through this place, and the people who live near the place called the 'San' immediately "the land that God created is angry".

Today, tourists go to the Namib to see the amazing sand dunes at Sossusvlei, a salt and mud flat in the middle of the Namib in the Namib-Naukluft National Park – the third largest park in Africa with an area of 50,000 square kilometers, while sand dunes are everywhere in the Namib Desert, those in Sossusvlei have a distinctive 'orange' colour. This color is actually between red and yellow, which means that there is a lot of rock in this soil.

The sky tourism seeks to preserve the rich storytelling, the Cultural Heritage of the Namibian Dark Sky

There are existing telescopes and observatories in Namibia where Astro tourism, and dark sky tourism in particular, can be developed. The world's largest known meteorite, a 66-ton hunk of metal named Hoba, is also located in Namibia and can be used to seed future Astro tourist attractions.
